Road Tests
Students test in our vehicle with our DPS-approved instructor. You get a short check ride to familiarize yourself with our vehicle before the test starts. During this check ride, your instructor may provide feedback on skills you may need to demonstrate during the road test. You also have the option to take a 45-minute lesson before the road test for an additional fee.
After the check ride or lesson, the student is directed to the test route, and our DPS-approved examiners evaluate skills. Following the test, all paperwork is checked for accuracy and bundled up for your change appointment at DPS.
If you don't pass, you get two more chances at no additional charge. You can only complete one test per day. There are no refunds for lessons or road tests.

DPS Portal Service
Don't want to spend your day at the DPS after you pass your road test? Let our team at Wilco Driving School save you a trip by uploading your documents and successfully completed road test to DPS for processing!
How it works:
- Set up your Texas by Texas Account (in the student's name with the student's contact information)
- Bring your documents to our driving school and pass the test with us
- We upload your documents and completed test to the DPS Portal
- DPS process your paperwork and loads you license into Texas by Texas
- Log into Texas by Texas, pay the $11 fee, print your temporary license and you are now a licensed driver
- Your plastic license comes to you in the mail
First, you have to meet the criteria:
- complete your required training and pass the your road test at our driving school
- be a US citizen
- complete the DPS application for your age and bring to your appointment:

Generally takes 3-5 business days to receive notification that your paperwork has been approved. After holidays, it may take a bit longer.
You can add this service in your account on our website. There will be no refunds given for this service, so please make sure you qualify and have your Texas by Texas account.

Road Tests
Take your road skills test at Three Lakes Driving School
We offer testing options for teens and adults. All options include a short check ride to familiarize yourself with our vehicle before the test starts. You can upgrade to a 45-minute lesson to review your skills with an instructor before your test. Your package includes three opportunities to test at no additional charge.
The Availability Calendar is informational only. You must book your time in your student account after registering.
Eligibility to Test - Teen
You are eligible for a TEEN Road test if you:
- are aged 16 to 18
- completed driver education, including classroom and behind-the-wheel (with a driving school or approved parent-taught program)
- completed 30 additional hours of practice
- held a valid Texas Learner's License (permit) for 181 days or longer (You can test the day after the date listed on the back of your permit.)
Eligibility to Test - Adult
You are eligible for an ADULT Road test if you:
- are age 18 or older
- have a Texas Learner's License (permit) or Texas Restricted License
- completed a 6-hour adult driver education course (only required for ages of 18-25)
What to Bring to Your Road Test - Teen
- Your permit (plastic or paper copy -- receipts not accepted)
- Impact Texas Video Certificate
- DPS License Application
If you have completed a teen course, you will need the following:
- Driver's Education Certificate for Parent-Taught Driver Ed (DE-964).

If you have completed an adult course (required for ages 18-25), you will need the following:
Adult Driver Education Course Completion Certificate (ADE-1317)
A $15 fee will be implemented for documents requiring printing at our office.
After Your Test
Once you successfully complete the road test, you will be given an envelope containing your test results, your Impact Certificate, and your driver education course completion. You will then take the envelope to the DPS to process for your license. You will need to book a "change/replace/renew" appointment at the Driver License Services - Appointment page.
Skip the Last Trip to the DPS
Let us help make your licensing process as smooth and convenient as possible. Skip the last trip to the DPS, if you qualify, when you pass your test with us.
You qualify if:
- You have completed your road test successfully
- You are a US citizen
- You don't have an excessive number of points for moving violations
How it works:
- Pass your road test with us
- Create an account with Texas By Texas
- Let our office team know you want us to upload your completed documents
- Check your Texas By Texas account regularly after 24-48 hours
- Pay your $11 license fee
- Download the paper copy of your license. Your plastic license will be mailed to you, but you can start driving on your own on your paper license.
